A hurried note on Avahi taxonomy: the current published information on this genus (notably the third edition of Conservation International's monumental lemur guide) is clear that animals in Ranomafana (which we saw at the start of the tour) are Peyrieras's avahis while those in Andasibe are eastern avahis. Recently I have heard from various people, including real authorities, that this situation may soon change. For the time being, however, I am sticking with the published information.
So, today in Andasibe I saw eastern avahis and jolly cute they were too. I also saw (and heard) indris and a mossy leaf-tailed gecko. Indris and mossy leaf-tailed geckos rock.
New and wonderful today in Andasibe
