Geese, gulls and gibbons

12th February

This is a post for the bird geeks only, as we’ve, happily, seen far too much today to recount in detail and I’m pinching just a few moments while my clients have their showers before tomorrow’s briefing and dinner. We spent the morning in the wonderful humid forest of Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary (all of you reading this must hear gibbons singing before you die). On the way back we stopped briefly at an ever-eventful marsh near Neemati Ghat. This afternoon we sailed to Majuli Island, watching birds and dolphins along the river, and this evening we strolled for an hour through grassland and a light forest of silk cotton trees. Succinctly put, we saw lots. I’d love to wax lyrical but a tour leader has to do what a tour leader has to do and right now that means going through today’s species list with my very enjoyable boat-load of clients Just for the record though, since I can’t smuggle them on to my list of vertebrates, today we saw our first glassy tiger, striped tiger and grey count butterflies. Seriously, who dreams these names up?
